LinkGuard is built to check links for scams, not to collect data about you. Here is exactly what the app does and doesn't do.
When you scan a QR code or check a URL, LinkGuard analyzes that link. If a backend is configured, the URL is sent to our server to check it against threat databases (Google Safe Browsing, URLhaus, OpenPhish) and to follow redirects to their final destination. If no backend is configured, everything happens on-device instead — nothing leaves your phone.
To enforce the free-scan limit, we create an anonymous, random ID tied to your install — no name, email, or account is required. This ID cannot be linked back to your identity by us.
Your scan history is stored locally on your device only. We never upload it. Clearing history in Settings, or uninstalling the app, permanently deletes it.
The camera is used only to detect QR codes in real time. Frames are processed live and are never recorded, saved, or transmitted anywhere.
If you choose a photo to scan a QR code from your library, that image is read on-device to find the code and is never uploaded.
For Pro subscribers, we check your clipboard locally to suggest scanning a link you just copied. This never leaves your device and is never stored beyond the current session.
Subscription purchases are handled by RevenueCat and your app store account (Google Play). We never see or store your payment details.
Free-tier users see ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as your advertising ID) to serve and measure ads, governed by Google's own privacy policy. Pro subscribers do not see ads.
If you share a link into LinkGuard from another app (Messages, WhatsApp, email, etc.), it is scanned the same way as a manually entered URL, and is not stored anywhere beyond your local history.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not require an account to use LinkGuard's core scanning features.
Clear your scan history anytime from Settings. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. Manage or cancel your subscription from your app store account.
LinkGuard is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
